Breeding Bird Survey Training
In North America, bird populations have declined in recent decades. Volunteers are invited become community scientists and contribute breeding bird survey data this May, helping to inform Willamalane land management. In this training, volunteers will learn about common bird species identification, field survey methods, how to participate in the May survey (which will take place on Willamalane parks and natural areas) and more. To register, be sure to "respond" to this opportunity and submit.
What to expect and prepare:
- Learn identification features for the common birds seen in parks and natural areas.
- Learn field survey methods including the use of e-Bird (an online program or app by Cornell Lab of Ornithology) and paper forms to record bird observations by location.
- Practice hands-on outdoors at Island Park.
- More information and sign up for May breeding bird survey. The May survey will take place at Willamalane parks and natural areas. Volunteer registration will be needed to participate in the surveys.
- Survey data will be shared in June, more details to follow!
