Come join our team at Dorris Ranch for a day of invasive plant removal and help improve the habitat for native plants and animals!
Dorris Ranch is arguably the crown jewel of Willamalane's public parks. On site, there are a variety of trails, activities, and large amounts of natural areas for visitors to enjoy. Wetlands, upland prairies, and temperate and riparian forests can all be found within the property boundaries. Due to the region's history with fire suppression, quite a few of these areas are in need of ongoing maintenance that simulates the disturbance regimes that fires and floods would typically bring to the landscape. Without periodic disturbance, ecosystems in the Willamette Valley have experienced large amounts of colonization of non-native or invasive plants, which displace and ultimately remove native flora from the landscape.
Join our team to help us with a day of invasive plant management and we will continue the district's efforts in restoring and protecting these threatened ecosystems. Our volunteer day will focus on removing one of the primary invaders from the site: English Ivy. This is an opportunity to get outside, learn about ecology, and spend a day working with your hands to keep Dorris Ranch a notable site to visit far into the future.
Please bring:
Snacks + water for the day.
Protective clothing: long pants, long sleeves, and sturdy work boots.
PPE and tools will be provided by Willamalane.
Parking:
The Dorris Ranch entrance is at the corner of S 2nd St and Harbor Dr. Because this site has high usage by the public, please park in the lower gravel parking lot pictured below (red X). The group will walk to the work site together after a quick safety orientation.
